Korean language which is an official language being spoken in both North and South Korean Countries originated from Middle Korean, which in turn originated from Old Korean, which has originated from the Proto-Koranic language which is generally insinuated to have its linguistic homeland.
The English name “Korean” is emanated from Goryeo, which is a concept to be the first Korean dynasty familiar to Western nations. Earlier English origins use the name “Corea” to refer to the nation, and its fissional form for the language, people and culture, “Korea” became more popularized in the early 1800s.
Korean people in the previous USSR alluded to themselves as Koryo-in or Koryo-saram and called the language Koryo-mal.
In South Korea, the Korean language is known by many names including hanguk-mal {“Korea speech”}, Uri-mal {“our language”} and hanguk-eo {“Korean language”}. “Hanguk” is a name taken from the Korean Empire; Daehanjeguk. Whilst in North Korea, the language many a time is called Joseon-mal, or traditionally, Joseon-o. It was extracted from the North Korean name for Korea {Joseon}, a name reserved from the Joseon dynasty until the declaration of the Korean Empire.
The Korean language, which is being regarded by linguists as a language isolate, belongs to a small Koreanic family.
